Workshop Exploring links between Education for sustainable development and Education for critical thinking

This workshop will explore how higher education, in promoting its students' critical thinking might also contribute effectively to the international pursuit of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDG’s), with a particular focus on learning outcomes variously described as values, affect, dispositions, socio-emotional learning, and on the links between these learning outcomes and the decisions that people make. The workshop explores what dispositions are, how we teach them, which should or should not be taught in higher education, how we assess or evaluate their acquisition and how we might encourage all of our students to apply them to regulate their own beliefs and actions. The workshop will be informed by a range of educational ideas and theories including those on cognitive and affective learning, critical thinking and critical theory, and academic scholarship. We should ask ourselves, in the context of a higher education, how closely 'educating for critical thinking’ aligns with ‘educating for sustainable development'? This workshop will consist of short presentations, conversations in small groups and plenary discussions.

This is a hybrid event, so you have the option to participate either in person or online. In-person participation will be held at Campus Blåsenhus, with limited seating available. Online participation will take place on Zoom. A link to the Zoom room will be sent out in time before the event. The room can accommodate a maximum of 30 people, and seats will be filled on a first-come, first-served basis. Participation via Zoom is open to an unlimited number of people.
