Juridik i praktiken – Understanding law in practice
This is a two-day retreat involving an introductory course in Swedish on legal matters relevant for those in leadership positions. Such positions require competence in various legal areas, since work at the university is governed by numerous laws and ordinances. It is good to recognise the main paths through the judicial forest. For example, it is crucial to understand one’s role as civil servant, as employer, and as contracting party. Those in leadership positions are frequently confronted with tricky questions such as “What parts of a service contract are public information?” and “In what ways can results from research projects be used?”

About the course
Target group
This course is aimed at managers and leaders at Uppsala University. Heads of department and acting heads of department are given priority. Therefore, while other leaders are welcome to apply, we cannot give definite confirmation of enrollment until registration closes.
Aim
This course is intended to give participants a fundamental understanding of various legal areas pertinent to the university context, so that they will be able to deal with legal questions, including knowing when expert assistance is needed.

- Basics of Swedish administrative law, including the exercise of public authority, public access and confidentiality
- Basics of civil law, including general contract law and intellectual property rights
- Understanding the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR)
- Academic misconduct and the Disciplinary Board and Staff Disciplinary Board
