Getting your message across

Communication is basically about attracting another person to choose to listen and is largely about the art of creating a positive relationship with your audience. How do you get others to listen to what you have to say? Is it enough to know your subject? Is it enough to have a nice presentation on your computer? What if the vital factor is not what we say, but how we say what we say and how do you make others want to listen to what you have to say?

Target group

Researchers, teachers and academic leaders at Uppsala Universitet who want to become more aware of and develop their oral presentation skills.

Places are limited to 16 participants.

Aim

That after the course the participants should feel more aware as communicators. The goal is for the participants to be able to more effectively choose a communication strategy based on target group, context and content.

Content

During the course, participants mainly work with three areas: rhetoric, presence and behaviour.

Examples of moments:
• Being a communcator
• The art of initiation
• Thetoric or the art of persuasion
• Body and eye expression
• Layout, planning and preparation for a speech

This course contains many practical exercises with good opportunity for personal feedback. The exercises are mixed with theoretical elements.
