Course Development Course

This course gives you an opportunity to (re-)design a new, or existing course arranged at your department. The course corresponds to two weeks work-time equivalent.

This course is aimed at

  • Teacher
  • Other teaching staff

Topic

  • Pedagogy

What should the students know, and be capable of doing, after having participated in the course? How does this particular course relate to progression and to other courses? What should a course curriculum contain? How can a student-activating and inclusive learning environment be established? What specific activities support student learning in order to assist them in passing assessment points and achieving course goals? Anyone engaged in course development work must decide on how these, as well as numerous other issues, should be resolved.

During the course you will be provided with an opportunity to reflect over the various aspects of course and curriculum design, based on actual research in higher education teaching and learning and various models regarding educational design. The overarching goal is to (re-)design a new, or existing course arranged at your department. This can be a course that you are currently engaged in or is a planned future responsibility. We recommend that you discuss your course selection with your dean of studies and/or program coordinator to ensure that your work contributes to educational development at your department. Two or more teachers engaged in a collaborative design process are naturally welcome to participate in the course.

At end-of-course you shall have a structured and pedagogically/didactically-based course structure in terms of curriculum and action plan, and a general description of the pedagogic underpinnings of the course.
