Academic Collaboration Chile Sweden (ACCESS) is a collaborative platform consisting of Swedish and Chilean universities. The platform aims to increase research collaboration between Sweden and Chile.

Focus areas

Through the ACCESS platform, a possibility is given to identify and discuss solutions to common challenges for both countries within the following focus areas:

  • The UN Sustainability Development Goal 3: Good Health and Well-Being.
  • The UN Sustainability Development Goal 11: Sustainable cities and Communities.
  • The UN Sustainability Development Goal 15: Life on land
  • The UN Sustainability Development Goal 14: Life under water

Staff opportunities

Researchers

For researchers, the following opportunities are available within ACCESS:

  • Participate in the ACCESS Forum that is held every 18 months.
  • Apply for funding to develop doctoral courses with Chilean colleagues

Apply for funding to organize a doctoral course in collaboration with a Chilean institution. The deadline for applications is 2 April, 2024.

ACCESS is now offering opportunities for institutions to apply for funding to develop and organize doctoral courses together with Chilean partner universities. After two successful years of joint courses, the third annual call is now open to develop a joint doctoral course.

The application is now open, and the deadline for submissions is 2 April, 2024. To be eligible to apply, the institution must be part of the ACCESS program. There should be at least one Chilean and one Swedish university as co-organizers for the course.

ACCESS partners will provide up to approximately USD 6000 per course, with a course convener from a Swedish university.

PhD students

Apply to the ACCESS courses for PhD students!

Below you can find short information about our four upcoming PhD student courses for 2024. All courses will be given in English and are open to PhD students at all ACCESS institutions. All courses will be 5 full-time weeks in length and will be worth 7.5 ECTS. Find more information on the ACCESS webpage.

Epidemiological Assessment of Health Effects from Chemical Exposure

  • Course Description: This course delves into the implications of environmental exposure to chemicals on human health, aligning with the United Nations' Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). It covers fundamental concepts of toxicology and environmental epidemiology, emphasizing interdisciplinary learning and real-case applications.
  • Course Period: 23 September to 25 October, 2024
  • Application Process: Registration is open until 31 March, 2024, via this link.

Collaborative Research Methodologies for Sustainability Studies with Focus on SDGs 13, 14, 15

  • Course Description: This course explores collaborative methodologies for sustainability research, focusing on Climate Action (SDG 13), Life below Water (SDG 14), and Life on Land (SDG 15). It aims to provide theoretical and methodological foundations for conducting collaborative research while addressing challenges and opportunities.
  • Course Period: Divided into two online modules: 2 April to 3 May, 2024, and 2-31 October, 2024.
  • Application Process: Registration closes on 15 March, 2024. Download and fill in the form on the ACCESS website, then email it to tomas.kjellqvist@sh.se.

Ecological Principles for Sustainable Weed Management

  • Course Description: This course provides insights into ecological principles for sustainable weed management in agricultural systems. It covers factors affecting the sustainability of weed management strategies and offers a comparative overview of regulatory frameworks in Sweden and Chile.
  • Course Period: 20 May to 9 June, 2024 (online component: 20-31 May, in-person component: 3-9 June)

Interdisciplinary Approaches to Social (In)justice, Indigeneity and Sustainable Future(s) in Chile and Sweden

  • Course Description: This course explores social justice, indigeneity, and sustainable futures in Chile and Sweden. It examines historical and contemporary issues related to indigenous communities, sustainability, and equitable opportunities.
  • Course Period: 1 October, 2024, to 10 January, 2025
  • Application Process: Registration closes on 31 May, 2024. Register online using this form.

The ACCESS Forum 2024

Every 18 months, a bilateral research seminar is organized (alternating between Sweden and Chile), where a wide range of subject areas and societal challenges are addressed. The ambition is to create a creative dialogue and to forge new contacts between Swedish and Chilean researchers. In conjunction with the research seminar, there is also a call for proposals for researchers in Chile and Sweden to apply for funds to create a joint PhD course
