AI for Research

At Uppsala University we conduct research into and develop artificial intelligence (AI) and machine learning (ML) as research tools in natural sciences, medicine and humanities. A significant part of our research is to see AI as a phenomenon where the focus is on understanding how technology influences our species, our society and our world.

The industrial sector has invested substantial resources in the development of AI and ML. With regard to the development, use and training of AI and ML technology, Uppsala University has an important role to play in society as an independent actor. Uppsala University has a dedicated laboratory at the University Library, Carolina Rediviva, which provides a good foundation for our continued work in AI and ML.

The rapid advances made over the past decade, with applications that have shaped the social sciences as much as natural sciences and medicine, have opened up completely new fields of research for AI and ML.

Projects

Since 2020 the University’s AI project AI4Research has worked to drive the whole University to renew itself in relation to AI and ML. You can see some of the projects below or read more on the AI4Research website.

Autonomous Research Platform for Battery Electrolyte Discovery

The goal of this project is to accelerate the electrolyte discovery process by coupling data-driven methodologies (AI/ML) with a high-throughput robotic electrolyte evaluation platform.
