Additional time/Overtime

As an employee at Uppsala University working hours in excess of regular working time, you will be compensated with a remuneration for additional time or overtime. If you have an employment as a doctoral candidate, you are not eligible for additional time or overtime compensation.

Additional time is work performed by a part-time employee during what would be regular working hours for a full-time employee. Additional time may not exceed 175 hours per year. The total amount of additional time and overtime worked by a part-time worker may not exceed 200 hours per year.

Overtime is work performed outside the regular working hours of a full-time employee. A full-time employee can be ordered to work overtime - up to a maximum of 150 hours per year. Overtime can be compensated by wage supplement or as leave. Overtime compensated by leave does not count towards the total amount of overtime per year. Overtime can be simple or qualified depending on when it is worked.

Work on additional time or overtime must have been authorized in advance by a manager or approved afterwards. This must also be done when the extra work is performed at another department/equivalent. The home department/equivalent must always approve of the extra work.

Regulation and how to report additional time/overtime

Teachers
As teacher, your working hours are calculated per annum, and all your duties must fit into this annual limit. Overtime over and above the total annual working hours should not normally occur. Annual working hours and rules for teachers working overtime and additional hours are regulated by the local agreement on working hours for teachers.

Teachers report overtime/additional hours via the form Overtime/Additional time Teachers [only in Swedish) [Övertid/mertid Lärare (3.0.2)]. The employee is responsible for monthly reporting their hours of overtime and additional hours.

Technical and administrative staff
Overtime, additional time and compensatory time is self-reported digitally in Primula Web.The employee is responsible for monthly reporting their hours of overtime and additional hours.

You may choose to receive your overtime/additional hours as a wage supplement or as leave. When registering overtime or additional hours, state your chosen alternative.
