About the Disciplinary Domain of Medicine and Pharmacy

The Faculties of Medicine and Pharmacy together constitute about one-third of Uppsala University and are among the top 60 in the world for life sciences.

We conduct research with both breadth and edge. Many projects are run in close collaboration with the industry, society and Uppsala University Hospital.

Welcome to the Disciplinary Domain of Medicine and Pharmacy at Uppsala University!

At the Faculty of Medicine at Uppsala University, we conduct education and research in medicine and healthcare.

We train occupational therapists, midwives, biomedical scientists and analysts, physiotherapists, speech therapists, doctors, radiographers and nurses. We also offer master’s programmes in biomedicine, public health, forensic science, infection biology, international health, medical nuclear technology and molecular medicine.

At the Faculty of Pharmacy – the only one in Sweden – we conduct education and research in medicinal chemistry, pharmaceutical biosciences and pharmacy.

Our hub is the Biomedical Centre (BMC), one of Northern Europe’s largest research centres in biomedicine, pharmacy and chemistry. The facilities are state-of-the-art, providing outstanding opportunities for collaboration across faculty boundaries and with industrial research. We also have a well-established international network with partner universities in nine European countries.

Uppsala University’s pharmaceutical activities date back to the 17th century but have undergone tremendous development in recent decades. The growing health and socio-economic importance of the field has added a social science aspect. At Uppsala University, the close connection between pharmacy and healthcare is emphasised by the organisational collaboration between the faculties of pharmacy and medicine within the Disciplinary Domain of Medicine and Pharmacy.
