Delivery with vacuum extraction (VE) is a common obstetric intervention that has increased in Sweden during the past decades. Since more than 7000 infants are delivered by VE each year, from a public health perspective, it is important that both the benefit and the risks of the intervention are well-described. There are up to date no Swedish studies that investigate how the obstetric management durin VE impacts on the child-outcome.The overall aim of the current project is to study whether / how care during vacuum-extraction delivery affects the risk of serious neonatal complication such as intracranial hemorrhages (ICH) among newborn infants and to investigate neurological morbidity among young children diagnosed with intracranial hemorrhages following birth with vacuum extraction. We will in this project use data from medical records and population-based data from the Swedish Medical Birth Register as well as the National Patien register to investigarte short- and longtern neurological mordidity among childen delivered by VE.The results of the project will be used to:1. provide pregnant women with sufficient information to enable informed choices2. provide obstetricians, pediatricians, midwives and nurses working in obstetric  care and neonatal units, with updated research in order to give an evidence based care3. Improve the care during and following VE-delivery
