Organic electrode materials for energy storage devices such as high energy density Li-ion or Na-ion batteries or high-power polymer-based supercapacitors constitute a rapidly expanding research area, at the cross-roads of materials science and electrochemistry. Today’s electrode materials in commercial devices are generally inorganic, rendering a poor environmental footprint in a life-cycle perspective. Organic electrodes on the other hand, especially if synthesized from biomass, could be synthesized using green chemistry processes, at low temperatures and using non-toxic solvents, and can be recycled using low-energy processes with a high degree of material recovery. However, much research is necessary to improve their electrochemical performance. This scientific community has for the last couple of years been of a critical size for creating its own international conference, but there have been strikingly little such activities. We therefore aim to take fill this gap and taking the initiative to organizing such a meeting, the Organic Battery Days, 8-9 June 2017, in Uppsala ( This is a joint initiative between Uppsala University, Sweden, and Université Nantes, France – presently two of the most active European academic institutions in the fieldFor a successful meeting, we also hope to attract parts of the vibrant Asian community with a couple of strategic invites.
