ELIXIR -- den europeiska infrastrukturen för biologisk information
Tidsperiod: 2017-01-01 till 2017-12-31
Projektledare: Bengt Persson
Budget: 2 122 000 SEK
The main mission of ELIXIR is to build a sustainable European infrastructure for biological information, supporting life-science research and its translation to society, the bio-industries, environment and medicine. ELIXIR is a unique and unprecedented organisation that consolidates Europe’s national centres, services, and core bioinformatics resources into a single, coordinated infrastructure. ELIXIR brings together Europe’s major life-science data archives and, for the first time, connects these with national bioinformatics infrastructures throughout ELIXIR’s member states. By coordinating local, national and international resources the ELIXIR infrastructure will meet the data-related needs of Europe’s 500,000 life-scientists. ELIXIR supports users addressing the Grand Challenges in diverse domains ranging from marine research via plants and agriculture to health research and medical sciences. ELIXIR is a distributed research infrastructure that consists of a hub and a number of nodes across Europe. The hub is financed by member fees from the ELIXIR member states. The nodes are financed by the respective host country. The Swedish contributions are coordinated by NBIS (National Bioinformatics Infrastructure Sweden). Since 2013, the Human Protein Atlas has been the Swedish contribution. From 2015 through EU-funding (ELIXIR-EXCELERATE) and the VR-funding applied for now, further activities are planned, as detailed in the application.
