This application concerns an international conference aiming to investigate different ways to understand persecution, discrimination and marginalization of Roma and Travelers. In invites researchers from the leading universities in this field - among them, the TU-Berlin, Leiden, Bielefeld, Duke, Chemnitz, Europa University Budapest, University College of London, Helsinki - to discuss both epistemological and practical issues surrounding the study of Antiziganism (Antigypsyism, Antiromanyism and so on). The conference brings together a number of approaches to Antiziganism, including sociology, social anthropology, history, and gender studies. It represents a rare opportunity to enhance theoretical and methodological work within this field through international and interdisciplinary dialogue. At the same time it builds on a Nordic and international network that has been going in since 2009. The conference will be arranged by the Hugo Valentin Centre, Uppsala University (the Gender seminar together with Linköping University). Scientifically responsible is Dr Jan Selling, who has coordinated the nordic network, Rorhin, since 2010, together with professor Leena Huss, senior researcher, and Dr Mats Deland, coordinator. It will be held 23-25 October 2013 in Uppsala, and 100-150 participants are expected. Web address: http://www.valentin.uu.se/aktuellt/konferenser/antiziganismconference/
