Sustainable Development

The world faces a number of global challenges as climate change, energy depletion, economic crisis, extinction of species, poverty and conflicts. Education and research in and for sustainability will have continued importance in analysing, critically examining and discussing these challenges. The knowledge, skills and perspectives that you as a student bring with you to your professional and private life will be a vital part of the work for sustainable development.

Understanding the complexity of the sustainability issues we face today and a broader knowledge of sustainable development, has relevance for all disciplines and professions, which correlates to the Swedish higher education act which states that universities should: "promote sustainable development to assure for present and future generations a sound and healthy environment, economic and social welfare, and justice".

CEMUS offers you an education where you as a student can study everything from part-time distance and evening courses to a number of semesters full-time. CEMUS's unique educational model – student-led education for sustainable development – with students employed as course coordinators to run the courses, course work groups consisting of experienced professors, university teachers, researchers and external actors, and specially invited guest lecturers, aims to give you as a student the best possible learning experience and a challenging and inspiring study environment.

The programmes and courses listed below are part of the subject Sustainable Develeopment within the Faculty of Science and Technology. Education in sustainable development is also offered in many other subject areas within the University.
