Social Work

Within the scientific discipline of Social work studies is conducted about socially vulnerable people's lives and experiences. In the discipline it is central to study the causes and consequences of social problems such as these can be understood at the level of individuals, groups and communities. Social work can thus explain how human welfare can be promoted throughout the life course and how different interventions can be identified and designed in order to prevent or remedy social problems. It's both about preventing social problems and about the creation of opportunities for social change among vulnerable individuals, groups and on a more structural level.

Social work can be seen as an interdisciplinary subject that has its origins in theories derived from the social and behavioural sciences. The specific knowledge included in social work has been developed both by its historical background and by international influences.
