History and Theory of Art

The study of Art History conveys basic methodical and theoretical knowledge of the discipline, as well as abilities in describing and interpreting man-made artefacts, mainly works of art, design, and architecture from the past until today. The art historian studies the significance of images and buildings by and of themselves, as well as in their social, cultural and historical context.

Training in the discipline of Art History is indispensable in for example the lines of museums, art galleries, art trade, cultural heritage, environmental planning within municipalities, county councils, and national institutions, as well as the private sector. Art History is also essential for a career in archives, libraries, the publishing trade and other media, as well as a theoretical complement to artistic training.
