Biomedical laboratory science is an interdisciplinary main field and brings together knowledge in medicine, science, statistics and technology. The main field, which consists of both theory and practical applications, is characterised by a basic scientific approach. The emphasis is on the methodology that can be used to analyse biological samples and physiological processes in order to evaluate physical function. Quality assurance and the development of analyses and examination procedures constitute a key part of the main field.
