Archive, Library and Museum Studies

ALM is an acronym for archives, libraries and museums - or for archival science, library and information science, and museum and heritage studies. The common core of the ALM disciplines is the study of information processes: acquiring, selecting, arranging, describing, preserving, and communicating different kinds of information and cultural heritage.

There are important differences between the practical work at archives, libraries and museums, but also significant overlaps. Cooperation is developing, especially in digital preservation and access. There are also many points of contact between archival science, library and information science, and museum and heritage studies as research disciplines.

For those who desire a comprehensive theoretical and practical education in these areas we recommend the Master's programme in ALM. A small number of courses included in the programme are also given as self-contained courses
