Archaeology with Focus on Osteology

In osteology, ancient skeletal materials from humans and animals are studied to understand their living conditions. The subject is closely linked to archaeology but also forensic medicine. Often, age, gender, and health status can be determined on an individual basis, while larger materials are suitable for calculations of economic and demographic conditions.

During the training, human and animal populations are analysed using both unburned and burned material. Different bone types and species are studied through laboratory work. Injuries and diseases that cause deposits in the legs are noticed. The theoretical and methodological conditions within the subject are discussed continuously, as well as ethical aspects of the work.
