Smart Exploration Research Centrum

Smart Exploration Research Center is a multidisciplinary research centre that brings together leading expertise from academia, business and industry to develop innovative solutions and technologies for exploration of critical and strategic raw materials.

The research centre coordinated by Uppsala University, with a multidisciplinary team with experts in geology, geophysics, socioeconomics, nanotechnology, complemented by expertise from Gothenburg, Lund and Stockholm universities, three mining companies, and five solution providers, will develop innovative solutions for exploration of critical and strategic minerals and metals. The main task is to create a responsible, socially acceptable, robust and sustainable supply of strategic and critical metals and minerals, necessary for the ongoing energy transition and climate adaptation of society.

The Centre focuses on fundamental and innovative research of highest international relevance to ensure sustainable supply of strategic and critical metals and minerals. The Centre is a hub for accelerating and meeting the growing need for exploration of critical raw materials in Sweden, the Nordic region and the rest of the world. The Center aims at innovative exploration solutions using four technical hubs with scoping work covering green sensing technologies, mineral systems, data analytics and geomodels.
