KTH and Uppsala University (Campus Uppsala and Campus Gotland) are now creating a new center whose focus will be on wind power project development and integration. The latter sectors strongly require competence development, especially when important challenges are expected in the near future considering the extent of wind power development that is planned to occur in Sweden. The center will contribute to a prosperous and optimized integration of wind power in the Swedish electrical system. In the last years, research at KTH and Uppsala University has been performed in areas like wind resource assessment, fluid mechanics for wind turbines in parks and in forested areas, electrical systems, sound emission, etc. This expertise is now brought together under one roof, where the different competencies will be tied together, resulting in a great synergy. The research resulting from this application will allow to progress from understanding parts of the integration process to understanding this process in its entirety and will include fundamental research on wakes, both numerically and experimentally, and sound studies.
