Blood gas monitoring for reduced child mortality - here, globally and beyond 2030

Purpose and goal: The first step of the project had four overall aims: 1.) Establishing an able and tight team, 2.) Develop a technically feasible requirement specification, 3.) Initiate technical prototyping to meet the requirements, and 4.) Establish a clear plan for progressing to the program’s second and third steps. All these aims have been achieved, and some even exceeded, e.g., the technical development reached all the way to a functioning instrument prototype. Expected results and effects: The overall results of the project have been very successful, where, e.g., a productive and tight team has been expanded and consolidated, a list of more than 70 independent requirements has been compiled, a strong, long-term patent strategy has been developed, a fully functioning prototype of the solution has been fabricated, and a detailed plan for the continued work has been drawn up. As a result, the project stands well-prepared to move on to the next step. Approach and implementation: The project has largely been implemented in the form of joint meetings and workshops, where member from all parts of the constellation have contributed. In order to improve the understanding of each other’s background, working methods and knowledge, several study visits were performed and members from the company and university even worked as one day interns at the hospital. Upholding close and continuous contacts throughout the project was one of the keys to the successful outcome.
