King honours Hans Ellegren and Lennart Elmevik

King Carl XVI Gustaf has decided to award H.M. The King's Medal to Hans Ellegren, Professor of Evolutionary Biology, and Lennart Elmevik, Professor Emeritus of Scandinavian Languages.
H.M. The King's Medal, formerly known as the Court Medal, was instituted in 1813 and is awarded for exceptional contributions.
Hans Ellegren is awarded H.M. The King's Medal of the 8th size with the ribbon of the Order of the Seraphim "for outstanding contributions to biological research and the history of science". He is Professor of Evolutionary Biology at the Department of Ecology and Genetics and currently Secretary General of the Royal Swedish Academy of Sciences.

“I was surprised, delighted and proud to receive this honour," says Hans Ellegren. “It feels like a reward after many years of long, hard work where our research group has been able to help develop knowledge about evolution and contribute to making Uppsala University a leading university in biological research. It's also particularly pleasing to also be recognised for studies in the history of science. It's an interest that has grown in recent years and is really exciting.”
Linguistic research
Lennart Elmevik receives H.M. The King's Medal of the 8th size with the ribbon of the Order of the Seraphim "for significant contributions to linguistic research and Swedish academia". He is Professor Emeritus of Scandinavian Languages at the Department of Scandinavian Languages.
They will receive their medals at the Royal Palace on Friday 10 June 2022.
