Islandic society

Isländska sällskapet (The Icelandic Society) was founded in 1949 and has as its aim to promote studies of Icelandic language and culture and to strengthen the cultural connections between Sweden and Iceland.

The Icelandic Society publishes Scripta Islandica. The aim of the journal Scripta Islandica is to promote interest in West Nordic matters: primarily Icelandic, but also Faroese and Norwegian as well as matters relating to the Nordic cultures on Greenland, The Orkneys and Shetland. Scripta Islandica welcomes scholarly contributions on all subjects in Danish, Norwegian, Swedish, and Icelandic, as well as English and German. All articles are summarized in English.

There is also a section for debate on current issues and reviews of scholarly books are also featured. Publishers or individual authors are invited to submit books on West Nordic topics for review.

The journal follows the guide-lines for refereed periodicals with anonymous assessment and approval of all articles by two independent and external referees, who are experts on the topic and of good academic standing.

Since issue 63/2012, Scripta Islandica is published in digital form (Open Access), with facility for print-on-demand. Printed copies can be ordered through Scripta Islandica’s web site.
