This subject didactic research project is based on a classroom study involving twelve eighth grade students and their two HK teachers. Videotaped observations and interviews with elements of stimulated recall are used to investigate students' learning processes and teachers' teaching strategies with a particular focus on how knowledge about food, meals and health is constructed in the classroom. The project is part of the research school UpRiSE - Uppsala Research School in Subject Education.

Description

Home and Consumer Science (HC) is a compulsory subject for all pupils in Swedish primary schools. One of the three knowledge areas of the curriculum is food, meals and health, but how and what do pupils learn? Which learning processes and teaching strategies become visible in the educational context through the interaction between participating parties?
