Injuries and incidents

Occupational injuries are accidents at work, accidents during travel, work-related illnesses and infections. A physical incident is an event that could have led to physical injury or an accident. A psychosocial incident may involve situations of victimising behaviour.

Both occupational injuries and incidents must be reported.

Reporting occupational injuries and incidents

Students, like staff, have a responsibility to report incidents to their teacher/supervisor/head of department/equivalent. If you have been injured, it is important to have a report of an occupational injury. The report also helps the University to improve the work environment.

What action should you take?

If you have been affected by an occupational injury or incident, you need to contact the person in charge of your course. They can help you with reporting the occupational injury or incident.
If you have suffered an occupational injury, you can also report it to The Legal, Financial and Administrative Services Agency, “Kammarkollegiet”. Kammarkollegiet insures university and higher education students. They provide an accident insurance which applies if you, as a student, have an accident during scheduled hours or while travelling to and from your studies.

What steps should the University take?

Your head of department or equivalent must report the occupational injury or incident to the Swedish Social Insurance Agency ("Försäkringskassan"). The head of department/equivalent is responsible for following up on the incident and taking action. The safety representative should be informed.
A report should also be submitted using an incident form (in Swedish) Pdf, 212 kB.. The incident report is then filed at the department so that measures and follow-ups can be carried out. A copy of the incident report, including information on planned and implemented measures, should be sent to tillbudstudent@uu.se for statistical purposes. Remember not to enter sensitive personal data.

Safety

The University’s activities must be undertaken effectively while providing a safe environment for students and staff. The University has its own crisis management structure and crisis preparedness plan.
